Mr Real explains why he regrets featuring Idowest on ‘Legbegbe’

Nigerian singer Mr Real has opened up about his regrets surrounding his breakout hit Legbegbe, admitting that featuring fellow artist Idowest on the track held back both the song’s potential and his own career.

In a recent interview, Mr Real revealed that he wished he had released the record as a solo effort, believing it could have propelled him into the same league as stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy. “I regret bringing Idowest into that song. I wish it was only me on it. If it was just me, I would be standing where Burna Boy and Wizkid are today,” he said.

The singer further disclosed that Wizkid once expressed interest in jumping on a remix of Legbegbe, but the collaboration never materialized. He attributed the missed opportunity to industry complications allegedly linked to D’banj, describing it as a major setback that could have elevated the song’s global impact.

Released in 2017, Legbegbe which featured Idowest quickly became a street anthem across Nigeria, thrusting Mr Real into the spotlight. However, he maintains that decisions made during its rollout prevented him from fully capitalizing on its success.

Mr Real had previously accused D’banj of exploiting him during their two-year working relationship, claiming he walked away with little to show for it. According to him, all he received from their partnership was $500.
