Morgan Stanley Launches High-Tech Mumbai Campus to Drive Technology Innovation and Operational Efficiency in India

Morgan Stanley launched its Mumbai campus integrating over 8,500 employees in a 1-million-square-foot space with advanced technology, sustainability, and inclusivity to drive innovation, efficiency, and productivity for its global operations.

Gokul Laroia, Asia CEO and co-head of global equities at Morgan Stanley said, “India’s economic growth, technological innovation, and demographic advantage make it an integral part of the Firm’s regional and global strategy,” commenting on  the firm’s commitment to India and to growing their footprint here. 

GenAI Adoption at Morgan Stanley 

This year, Morgan Stanley launched AI @ Morgan Stanley Debrief, an OpenAI-powered tool that boosts advisors’ productivity by capturing meeting notes, summarising key points, and drafting follow-up emails.

Last year, the firm introduced AI @ Morgan Stanley Assistant, which is also built on OpenAI’s LLM, and provides advisors with access to Morgan Stanley’s resources, with 98% of advisor teams now adopting it. Co-President Andy Saperstein noted that the assistant would “We also believe that generative AI will “revolutionise client interactions, bring new efficiencies to advisor practices, and ultimately help free up time to do what you do best: serve your clients.”

Jeff McMillan, head of analytics, data and innovation at Morgan Stanley wealth management, AI describes AI as a window of opportunity. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my career, and I’ve been doing artificial intelligence for 20 years. I think as an organisation, we didn’t want to get left behind,” he said. 

Commitment to India’s Growth

India’s GCC sector employs over 1.6 million professionals. According to EY, this growth will persist, with projections showing over 2,400 GCCs in India by 2030, generating jobs for over 4.5 million people. The market size is expected to surge to $110 billion by 2030 from the current $45 billion.

This is Morgan Stanley’s latest Global Capability Center (GCC) in India, following the establishment of its first one over 20 years ago. “Our operations have grown tremendously and evolved to become a key driver of innovation and transformation. The centers are critical to creating operational efficiencies and competitiveness for the firm,” said Arun Kohli, country head for India at Morgan Stanley. 

The campus is built to promote inclusivity, offering amenities such as onsite childcare, mother’s rooms, and wellbeing zones, creating a supportive environment for diverse needs. Designed for sustainability, the facility aims for LEED Gold and FITWEL certification, with energy-efficient lighting, water conservation, waste reduction, and a ban on single-use plastics. With modern workspaces, advanced technology, a health center, and fitness facilities the office focuses on productivity and employee satisfaction, and retention.
