The Middle Belt chapter of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has resolved to zone the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket to the South in 2027, citing the need for a strong, credible opposition capable of winning the election.

This position was made known by COPDEM National Chairman, Prince Rwang Pam Jr, while addressing the media at the COPDEM-ADC Strategy Conference held in Jos, Plateau State, with the theme: “Nigeria at a Crossroads: Building the Winning Coalition for 2027”.

Prince Rwang Pam Jr explained that the resolution aims to build a credible and winning coalition, stressing the importance of fairness, inclusion, and national balance for Nigeria’s democratic stability.

The conference observed that national elections in Nigeria are won through broad-based coalitions, with the Middle Belt serving as a decisive electoral bridge in determining national outcomes.

It further noted that the Middle Belt has evolved into a conscious, strategic, and decisive political bloc whose strength lies not only in contesting power but in proactively shaping the direction of coalitions.

The conference declared that the Middle Belt will lead from the centre by shaping a fair, inclusive, and winning coalition for Nigeria. It emphasized that the region is no longer a silent partner in national politics but a decisive force that will determine the outcome of the 2027 general elections.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MIDDLE BELT COPDEM-ADC STRATEGY CONFERENCE

The Conference noted the strategic importance of the Middle Belt in national elections and the urgent need to build a credible governing alternative capable of restoring national stability, economic prosperity, and public trust in leadership.

Key observations included the critical role of broad-based coalitions, fairness, and inclusion in Nigeria’s democratic stability, as well as the need for a national platform that demonstrates balance at the highest level of leadership selection.

The conference resolved that the COPDEM-ADC Middle Belt Strategic Conference will continue to engage actively in Nigeria’s political process as a conscious, strategic, and decisive political bloc committed to fairness, inclusion, and national unity.

The conference declared that the Middle Belt will prioritise coalition-building over sectional contestation in the 2027 presidential election, and that the presidential ticket of the ADC should be zoned to Southern Nigeria.
