Argentina legend Lionel Messi has sent an emotional message to the country’s U-20 team after their defeat to Morocco in the final of the 2025 U-20 World Cup.

The Albiceleste, current senior world champions, had hoped to extend their dominance at youth level, mirroring Messi’s own triumph at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship.

However, Morocco claimed the title with a 2–0 victory, thanks to a brace from Yassir Zabrini, who found the net in the 12th and 29th minutes.

The victory made Morocco the first African nation to win the U-20 World Cup since Ghana’s triumph in 2009.
