Mercedes Fits Automated Valet Parking To Its EQE And EQS SUVs

Mercedes announced that its EQE SUV and EQS SUV models are now capable of Automated Valet Parking, joining the EQE and EQS which already had the feature. This means SAE Level 4 automated driverless parking, which sounds incredibly useful—because it would be if you could use it anywhere. You’d basically exit the car and then send it off to park itself.

But you can’t use this anywhere, that is. The absolutely humongous catch here is that this system only works in literally one single place in the entire world: at the parking garage P6 at Stuttgart Airport. That’s it, for now at least. Hopefully, this will be made available in more places soon, but for now, it’s only of any usefulness to you if you live in Mercedes’ hometown, own any of the four supported models at the moment, and need to drive to the airport and park your car there.

That’s the peak niche use case, isn’t it? Anyway, if you are in this incredibly small group of people, you’ll definitely be very happy about this new feature, considering how narrow parking spots in such garages can sometimes be.

You no longer need to hunt for a space or park the car yourself. You simply drive to the P6 garage at Stuttgart Airport, exit the car, and then send it to a pre-booked parking space from your smartphone. You’ll also appreciate P6’s location right next to the terminal building, meaning you don’t have a lot of walking to do to actually get to the airport.

To get this, all you need to do is go to the services menu of the Mercedes me app, and activate it. One final note of caution: for some weird reason, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-AMG models are excluded.
