Until then, the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster catalog offered two versions. An entry-level model powered by a “small” four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,991 cm3 and still producing 381 hp under the hood of the SL 43. And above, with double the number of cylinders, the SL 63 4Matic+ variant has a 3982 cm3 twin-turbo V8 engine with a power of 585 hp and a torque value of 800 Nm.

Today comes a plug-in hybrid variant that combines a 4.0 biturbo V8 engine claiming 612 hp and 850 Nm with an electric machine powered by a small 6.1 kWh battery placed on the rear axle. The latter has 204 hp and allows you to travel up to 13 km without emissions. But you will have to understand that that is not the aim of the maneuver.

The idea is rather to benefit from a cumulative 816 hp and 1,420 Nm equally distributed to the four wheels via the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive through an automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel steering is also included, a technology released in the 4-door version with 843 hp.

The technical sheet for the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 SE Performance announces a top speed of 317 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Eight driving modes, called AMG Dynamic Select, are on the program. Each of them affects the response of the transmission, the accelerator, the steering, the shock absorbers, and even the exhaust noise. Furthermore, four levels of braking energy recovery are available, the most powerful of which corresponds to single-pedal-type driving, saving 100 kW.

To stand out aesthetically from the rest of the range, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 SE Performance sports the “E-Performance” inscription on its front fenders, and its 20-inch standard rims and 21-inch optional rims feature a specific design.
