While most families with a key political figure often expect their kin or children to follow in the same footsteps, this is not always the case. Many renowned Kenyan politicians who have been in the spotlight for decades have children who choose different paths.

A good example is Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, Klein Kalonzo, whose father has been a top leader in Kenya from the days of the country’s 2nd President, Daniel Arap Moi, to his current role as a key opposition leader.

While many might expect him to follow his father’s path in politics, Klein, against the odds, has pursued a career in the music industry. Times Digital Kenya takes a look at Klein Kalonzo’s journey in an industry where most would not expect him to be.

Klein Kalonzo’s Music Career

Kalonzo Musyoka’s son has been in the music industry for over a decade. Although he has spent many years in the field, he has not gained widespread fame, as he mostly works behind the scenes as a producer.

His career kicked off in 2014 when he launched his own studio, Heart Beats Studios, where he serves as the producer. In addition to producing, Klein, whose stage name is K-Deuce, also raps.

In his early days as a producer, Klein Kalonzo notably worked with the famous Kenyan group Camp Mulla, as well as the popular producer Kanyeria.

A year after launching his studio, he released a song titled Looking Up. In the track, Klein Kalonzo featured a group of rappers known as Dandora Music and shot the video in their home turf, Dandora.

Achievements in Music

Due to his father’s influence, many might have expected Klein Kalonzo to become a leading rapper in the country, but that has not been the case, as his music career has been under the radar.

His notable achievements in the industry as a rapper include gracing the Franco Cypher, a hip-hop tribute to Congolese rumba music legend Franco.
