Meet Chacha Mwita, Firebrand High Court Judge Known for His Landmark Decisions

Enock Chacha Mwita is a Judge of the High Court in Kenya known for his firm rulings on constitutional law, human rights, and the rule of law.

In 2024 and early 2025, he issued a landmark ruling blocking the government’s plan to deploy Kenyan police to Haiti, stating that such a deployment was unconstitutional under current law.

He also made a ruling that the Parliament has no role in vetting members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), thus protecting the independence of the judiciary.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Chacha has a 1990 Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi.

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, attained in 1991, before being admitted to the Roll of Advocates in the same year.

Chacha Mwita Work Experience

From 2014 to date, he has been a Judge of the High Court in Kenya.

Between 1996 and 2014, he worked as an Advocate at Chacha Mwita & Company Advocates.

Before starting his own law firm, Mwita worked as an Associate Advocate at Nguli & Company Advocates.
