Ayati Devices, an Indian MedTech startup, has raised Rs 15 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by Inflexor Ventures, as it looks to expand manufacturing and commercialisation of its diagnostic tools in India and overseas.

The Bengaluru-based startup said the funding will also be used to strengthen its team and increase investment in research and AI.

Founded in 2019 by Nishant Kathpal, Ayati develops portable, point-of-care technologies for assessing diabetic foot complications and vascular conditions. It was incubated at IIT Bombay's Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, or SINE.

Its technologies are designed to allow screening to take place in settings including clinics, hospitals, primary care centres and screening programmes, rather than relying solely on specialist facilities.

Ayati's portfolio includes Vibrasense, which measures vibration perception threshold to assess large-fibre nerve function, and Vibrasense+T, which adds warm and cold perception testing to assess both large- and small-fibre function.

Its Vasosense platform is used for vascular assessment, including screening for peripheral arterial disease, while Angiocam is designed to assess tissue-level blood perfusion. The startup also offers Podiasense products for plantar-pressure assessment.

Together, the technologies form part of Ayati's Foot Labs platform, which brings together assessments of nerve function, vascular status, microcirculation and plantar pressure.

The startup's approach is to bring foot-risk assessment closer to primary diabetes care, allowing patients to be screened and referred for specialist treatment where necessary.

Ayati sells primarily to healthcare providers, including clinics and hospitals, as well as clinicians such as diabetologists, endocrinologists and podiatrists.

For healthcare facilities requiring a broader assessment, it combines multiple diagnostic technologies into a single platform covering neuropathy, blood flow, microcirculation and plantar pressure.

Ayati is also developing AI capabilities across its diagnostic platform. It said the immediate goal is to provide clinicians with additional information from diagnostic measurements rather than replace clinical judgement.

Over time, it plans to connect data from different tests through a common AI layer, bringing together information on nerve function, circulation and foot biomechanics.

According to Ayati, the resulting data could eventually be used for risk stratification, including estimating the likelihood of ulcer development and helping clinicians determine how frequently patients should return for follow-up assessments.

The longer-term objective is to develop an integrated clinical decision-support platform rather than treating each diagnostic measurement as a separate test.

Ayati said more than 10,000 of its devices have been deployed across more than 30 countries, with India accounting for the largest share of its installations.

The startup now plans to use part of the new capital to increase manufacturing capacity and expand its presence in domestic and international markets.

The latest investment follows earlier seed and angel funding, grants and incubator support used by Ayati during the development and early commercialisation of its technologies.

The pre-Series A funding is expected to support the startup's next stage of commercial growth, alongside further investment in product development and AI-enabled diagnostics.
