Typically, when we think of the Wankel rotary engine as a whole, we first think of Mazda. Back in the early 1960s, Mazda was keenly interested in developing the rotary engine, specifically the Wankel rotary, a mill first devised in the 1920s. Over the years, Mazda has featured the rotary engine in numerous iconic vehicles like the Cosmo, RX-7, and RX-8. The Japanese automaker even built a pickup truck boasting the quirky rotary engine called the Mazda Rotary Pickup, or "Repu" for short.
