The current ND generation of the Mazda MX-5 Miata has been on sale since the 2016 model year, making it veritably ancient by new-car standards. Mazda is working on a successor, the so-called NE (a chassis code that's already been used by the Fiat 124 Spider), though the automaker has said very little about the car beyond its desire to stay true to the nameplate’s core tenets of lightweight, fun, and affordable.
