Mauricio Pochettino apologises to Anthony Taylor and Pep Guardiola after X-rated Chelsea rant

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino was left furious at referee Anthony Taylor following the Blues’ 4-4 Premier League draw with Manchester City.

The west Londoners came from behind on three separate occasions to hold the league leaders to a thriller at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer’s injury-time penalty salvaged a point for Chelsea after Rodri’s 86th minute goal looked to be the winner.

After Palmer’s goal against his former side, neither side were able to produce a chance to win the game. However, in the 100th minute, Chelsea were denied the chance to counter City on the half-way line.

Over two minutes of the eight minutes added had passed and Marc Cucurella had dispossessed Phil Foden before racing forward to launch one last attack. But referee Taylor blew the full-time whistle to kill any hope of a dramatic winner.

The decision didn’t go down well with Pochettino, who was shown storming onto the pitch to vent his frustration at Taylor. The Sky Sports cameras followed the Blues boss as he approached the referee, with the Argentine clearly saying, “What the [expletive]?!”

Pochettino was eventually stopped by two of his coaching staff after being booked by Taylor. Speaking in his press conference, the Chelsea boss was apologetic to the referee. He said: “I need to apologise to Anthony and the officials because in this moment I feel Raheem can go through and in this moment I say ‘What the…?’

“I deserve to be booked, I apologise but this type of behaviour is no good. I want to apologise to him also [Pep], I was focused on the action.”

Pep Guardiola was also asked on the matter after not receiving a handshake from the Chelsea boss. He replied: “It’s not a problem. It’s fine. The emotions happen to me sometimes. Completely fine.”
