Manchester United open contract talks with Harry Maguire

Manchester United have opened discussions with defender Harry Maguire over a potential new contract, according to reports.

The 32-year-old’s current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of the season, though the club triggered a one-year extension in January.

Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million, has made seven appearances across all competitions this campaign and even found the net in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Despite not being a regular starter, the England international has impressed manager Ruben Amorim with his leadership and performances in a back-three system.

Since arriving at United, Maguire has featured 253 times, scoring 16 goals. He was stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag in 2023, with Bruno Fernandes taking over the armband.
