Manchester United faces another setback as midfielder Scott McTominay is set to spend time on the sidelines due to a knee injury sustained during their recent clash against Chelsea, as reported by Man Utd News.

McTominay, a Scotland international, suffered a knee hyperextension during the dramatic 4-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge. Although initial concerns arose about the severity of the injury, sources within United have indicated that it is not severe. However, McTominay is expected to undergo a two to three-week recovery period depending on his rehabilitation progress.

This injury adds to United’s ongoing fitness woes, particularly in defense, where they are currently without the services of four senior center-backs: Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans. Manager Erik ten Hag has suggested that Varane and Evans are unlikely to return soon, while Martinez and Lindelof face at least another month on the sidelines.

In addition to defensive issues, United is depleted in the left-back position, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia nursing injuries. Shaw, though, is expected to return before the end of the season.

Despite these challenges, United welcomes back midfield stalwarts Casemiro and Mason Mount from injury spells. However, McTominay’s absence will be keenly felt, given his knack for scoring crucial goals and contributing to the team’s Premier League points tally this season.

While awaiting updates on McTominay’s condition, attention also turns to Marcus Rashford, whose fitness status remains uncertain. The club is expected to provide comprehensive updates on both players later this week as they navigate through a challenging period on the injury front.
