Man shares how his family became closer after their TV broke — says it’s the best thing that ever happened to them

A man on X, has shared how a broken TV unexpectedly transformed his family life.

According to him, their television got spoilt last December, and instead of replacing it, they decided to live without one for six months — a decision he now calls “the best family experiment of all time.”

He explained that without TV, his kids started reading more, playing together, and spending evenings outside with friends. As a family, they began talking more, cooking together, playing games, and actually connecting.

He shared one memorable moment where they organised a “family sip and paint” at home, complete with homemade meat pie, chicken wings and puff puff — a day that ended in laughter instead of everyone glued to screens.

Ten months later, He says they still haven’t replaced the TV, and don’t plan to anytime soon.

In response to a follower who asked if he also restricted phone and iPad access, he revealed that his kids only use devices on weekends for about an hour, and sometimes they have family movie nights on a laptop or go to the cinema.

He added that even during dinner, his daughter keeps everyone accountable — “If my wife or I touch our phones, she calls us out — ‘No phones on the table!’”
