Liverpool vs Brighton betting preview

With the Premier League title race set to resume this weekend, Jurgen Klopp will be anxiously waiting and watching who returns from the international break in one piece.

Often the big teams can look stale in their first game back after a break, especially if they are in the 12.30 slot on Saturday. But thankfully for Klopp, the fixture computer and TV schedule has been kind to him on this occasion.

Not only has he got a home Sunday kick-off against Brighton. But his team’s two main title rivals also play each other later in the day. So someone is going to help Liverpool by dropping points when City and Arsenal meet at the Etihad in the 4.30 live TV fixture.

Also going in Liverpool’s favour is Brighton’s appalling form of late. Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi has long been mooted as a possible replacement for outgoing Red’s boss, Jurgen Klopp.

But if Brighton keep performing as they have been, they might not need to be fending off approaches from bigger clubs.

His Brighton team has been awful in recent weeks, although they did stop the rot with a 1-0 home win over struggling Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League outing.

The Seagulls have given Liverpool trouble in recent seasons. And this is a fixture that will be sending shivers down Klopp’s spine. But we expect to see the Reds beat Brighton in their current form.

Liverpool vs Brighton key stats

  • Liverpool are top of the Premier League table with 64 points from 28 games. They only sit behind Arsenal on goal difference.
  • Brighton are eighth in the table with 42 points from 28 matches. They are two points behind 7th-placed West Ham with a game in hand but have slipped to five points behind 6th-placed Manchester United.
  • In the head-to-head, Liverpool leads the way with 20 wins. Brighton have won seven times, and there have been 12 draws.
  • In recent times, Brighton has been a bit of a bogey team for Klopp’s men. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last four against Liverpool, including the 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium in October in the reverse fixture.
  • In their last five matches in all competitions, Liverpool has won three, drawn one and lost one. The draw was in the Premier League against Man City, and the defeat was the 4-3 loss to Manchester United in their thrilling FA Cup 6th Round clash.
  • Brighton has won two and lost three of their last five in all competitions. The wins came against Forest in the league, and they also beat Roma 1-0 in the second leg of the Europa League. The Roma match was a dead rubber, as Brighton were already 4-0 down from the first leg.

Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals (Spreadex)

Only Manchester City and Fulham have stopped Liverpool from scoring three or more goals at Anfield in all competitions since the turn of the year.

The City match was always going to be a tight affair. While the Fulham fixture in the Carabao Cup semi-final 1st leg was a strange game, with Liverpool looking very lethargic on the night.

The Kop will know how important the match on Sunday is. And we could be treated to the rampant Liverpool that has put four past Newcastle, Chelsea and Luton in 2024.

⚽ Back Liverpool to score over 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Spreadex ⚽

Alexis Mac Allister to score or assist (bet365)

Former Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has scored in his last three appearances for Liverpool in all competitions.

The slight tactical change in the Liverpool lineup has seen Mac Allister employed in a more attacking role, which is starting to pay dividends for the Reds. The Argentine also has three assists in his last three Premier League matches.

⚽ Back Alexis Mac Allister to score or assist at 5/4 with bet365 ⚽

Mohamed Salah to score and Liverpool win (Sky Bet)

Liverpool’s Mo Salah averages a goal or an assist every 76 minutes in the Premier League in 2023/24.

I don’t know if this is fair, but despite such a great record, I can’t help feeling that Salah doesn’t look like he’s totally at his best. Imagine what he will be doing when he is firing on all cylinders.

Regardless, Salah knows how important this match is, and I expect the great man to contribute to a Liverpool win in some way.

⚽ Back Mo Salah to score and Liverpool to win at 1/1 with Sky Bet ⚽
