Doug Liman, the director of “The Bourne Identity,” is set to make a thriller film titled “Killing Satoshi,” which will star Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson. The film revolves around Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.

The script, written by Nick Schenk, follows a powerful group trying to hide Nakamoto’s identity. The details related to the characters of Affleck and Davidson remain undisclosed at present.

As per the reports, the film will examine Bitcoin’s disruptive impact on global finance. It will also depict Nakamoto as a figure that some revere as a liberator, while others perceive him as a threat to institutional control.

Liman described the film as a David-and-Goliath story involving antiheroes challenging powerful global forces. The narrative aims to blend political intrigue, high-tech espionage, and a race for control involving governments, Wall Street, and Silicon Valley.

Further, the project also marks the return of producer Ryan Kavanaugh, the former Relativity Media chief behind films like “The Social Network.” The UK-based Production Lens, founded by Kavanaugh, Lawrence Grey, and Garret Grant, will oversee the project. Kavanaugh, who is a cryptocurrency advocate, is fully funding the film alongside Grey and Shane Valdez through production firms Proxima and Aperture Media Partners. Jared Underwood of Aperture Media is the executive producer. The filming is scheduled to begin in October in London, with a 2026 release planned.

The Mystery Behind Nakamoto

Satoshi Nakamoto, whose existence remains unconfirmed, is believed to have mined around 1 million Bitcoin between 2009 and 2010. This has placed Nakamoto among the world’s richest.

On July 14, Satoshi became the 11th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $133 billion, when Bitcoin made a new all time high of $124,000. Nakamoto surpassed Microsoft’s Founder, Bill Gates, who has a net worth between $117 billion and $125 billion at that time.

However, his associated Bitcoin wallet has remained inactive since early test transactions. On June 2, Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas posted on X that Satoshi Nakamoto could become the world’s second-richest person by the end of the year 2026.
