Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, has called for a national census to determine the actual religious composition of Nigeria, following controversial claims by Islamic cleric Sani Yahaya Jingir ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Jingir had urged Muslims to leverage their voting strength to support Muslim candidates and back the continuation of a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. He also claimed that Muslims are more numerous than Christians in Nigeria.

Reacting during a church service on Sunday, Enenche strongly rejected the claim, insisting that Christianity is not inferior or secondary to any other religion in the country.

“I heard an insane man said that Christianity is subordinate to any other religion in this country. Christianity is not secondary, and no group of religious fanatics will ever make it secondary,” Enenche said.

He argued that Christians are present across virtually every part of Nigeria and questioned why a comprehensive census had not been conducted to establish the religious demographics of the country.

“If you think you’re superior, why didn’t you people allow census all this while? And if you want to settle the scores, do a census, let everybody tell you what they believe in, then you will be shocked,” he said.

The Dunamis pastor also criticised security agencies for allowing what he described as reckless and inflammatory statements capable of provoking violence.

According to him, authorities should act swiftly when public comments have the potential to create tension or trigger unrest.

“It’s time to call them to order. And I blame security forces for allowing people who make reckless and useless statements to still be moving on the road,” Enenche said.

He added that individuals making statements capable of inciting violence should be taken seriously by the authorities.

The pastor’s remarks come amid growing political and religious conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, with questions surrounding voting patterns, religious representation and the possibility of another Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket already generating debate across the country.
