After paying $37 million for a Beverly Hills estate in 2020, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is moving forward with plans to build two new luxury mansions on the site.

According to recent reports, James had the original 1930s home torn down shortly after buying it and recently secured approval to divide the 2.72-acre property into two separate parcels. Each lot will feature a custom-built residence designed to his specifications.

Details of the planned mansions

Property documents show that the first home will span 16,000 square feet over two stories and include a 7,700-square-foot basement garage. Plans also call for a pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and solar-paneled roof. A two-level garage will sit above ground, adding to the property’s scale.

The second residence will be a single-story, 6,550-square-foot home with a basement-level movie theater, an entertainment area, and a two-car garage. It will also include a terrace featuring hot and cold plunge pools, along with a landscaped courtyard lined with palm trees.

Construction began in 2023 after the city approved the building plans. While the estate was initially expected to serve as James’ primary residence with his wife, Savannah, and their three children—Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri—reports now suggest that the second mansion may be intended for Bronny, who recently joined the Lakers organization.

Balancing basketball and business

LeBron James, sidelined with an injury, is preparing to set another NBA record when he returns to the court. The 40-year-old forward will become the first player in league history to play 23 seasons, surpassing Vince Carter’s mark of 22. “I’m excited to keep playing the game I love,” James said recently. “I don’t know how much longer I’ve got, but I’m locked in for this season.”

Off the court, James has built an estimated $1.3 billion fortune, with investments spanning Fenway Sports Group, Blaze Pizza, SpringHill Entertainment, and Liverpool FC. He also holds long-term partnerships with Nike and Beats by Dre.

Earlier this month, he extended his global partnership with Hennessy, releasing a new V.S.O.P. limited edition. In March, he signed a distribution deal with Amazon to bring his Mind the Game podcast to Prime Video, Amazon Music, and Echo devices.
