La Liga Expert hails Lookman’s Atlético move

La Liga expert Phil Kitromilides has shared thoughts on Ademola Lookman’s high-profile move to Atlético Madrid, describing the transfer as a major boost for Diego Simeone’s side.

Lookman completed a permanent switch to Atlético on Monday from Atalanta, with the Serie A outfit reportedly pocketing around €40 million for the Nigerian international. 

The 28-year-old arrives in Madrid off the back of several impressive seasons in Italy, where he established himself as one of Atalanta’s most decisive attacking players.

The former Everton and Leicester City winger becomes only the second Nigerian to represent Atlético Madrid, following in the footsteps of Muyiwa Lawal, marking a historic moment for both the player and Nigerian football.

Speaking on CBS TV, Kitromilides highlighted the buzz surrounding Lookman’s arrival in the Spanish capital.

He said: “People are super excited about this transfer, it’s a little bit of star quality coming through to Atleti. It’s a really, really interesting signing.”

Atlético fans will be hoping Lookman’s pace, directness and eye for goal translate quickly to La Liga, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options and mount a serious challenge domestically and in Europe this season.
