Kwankwaso is Working for Tinubu in 2027, Partnership with Obi Temporary – Bature

By Tgnews Reporter

A top aide to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has claimed that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is strategically working in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing the ongoing alliance between the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi as a short-term arrangement with limited prospects.

Sanusi Bature, Spokesperson to the Kano Governor, made the revelation while asserting that the NNPP no longer possesses the structural strength to fly independently in the 2027 presidential election.

According to Bature, critical stakeholders, including Kwankwaso himself, reached an agreement to seek a more viable political platform ahead of the next general elections.

“We approached Tinubu and the APC as our Option A to explore joining the party. With Kwankwaso’s consent, we initiated the move,” Bature stated.

He alleged that Kwankwaso personally insisted on meeting President Tinubu before any formal defection could occur. However, the planned meeting was cancelled by Kwankwaso, who cited a trip to China, and was never rescheduled.

Bature further described a potential Peter Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket as unrealistic, particularly in Kano State.

“A Peter Obi-Kwankwaso ticket in Kano is strange. Kwankwaso, a PhD holder, deputising Obi, who only holds a first degree, doesn’t look like the Kwankwaso we know. I don’t see this partnership working,” he said.

The spokesperson maintained that the current understanding between Kwankwaso and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi is temporary, suggesting deeper realignments are underway within Nigeria’s political landscape as major players position themselves for the 2027 contest.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Senator Kwankwaso nor the NNPP had issued an official response to the claims. The development comes amid growing speculation about political realignments and possible defections ahead of the next electoral cycle.
