Kwankwaso Eyes NDC VP Ticket, Says It Paves Way for Kano to Produce Nigeria’s President

By Emmanuel Kwada

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed strong confidence that he will secure the party’s vice-presidential nomination for the 2027 general elections, describing it as a strategic step toward positioning Kano State to produce the next President of Nigeria.

Speaking on his political plans, Kwankwaso declared that his emergence as the NDC’s running mate would mark a historic opportunity for the northern commercial hub.

“By God’s grace, the next election will be unlike anything that has ever happened in our state and country, especially if I secure the ticket and my name is on the ballot,” Kwankwaso said.

The former governor of Kano State argued that clinching the vice-presidential slot would not only strengthen the NDC’s chances in the forthcoming polls but also serve as a launching pad for greater political influence for Kano State at the national level.

He believes a successful outing at the vice-presidential position would eventually open the door for a Kano indigene to emerge as President in the near future.

Kwankwaso, who has remained a dominant figure in Kano politics for decades, urged his supporters and party members to intensify mobilisation efforts, saying the 2027 election presents a unique opportunity to reshape the political landscape of both Kano and Nigeria.

His statement comes amid growing speculations about potential alliances and ticket arrangements within the relatively new NDC as major political parties begin early positioning for the next general elections.

Kwankwaso’s ambition reflects his continued influence in northern politics and his desire to play a decisive national role beyond his state base.

Further details on the NDC’s leadership and ticket formulation are expected in the coming months as the party works toward finalising its strategy for the 2027 presidential race.
