The Kwara South Youth Congress (KSYC), a non-partisan organization representing the interests of youth in Kwara South, has criticized the below the belt performance of Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru (Senator Kwara South), Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin ( Member House of Representatives for (Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke Ero), and Rep Tijani Ismail (Member House of Representatives for Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun), urging them to step up their legislative game.

In a press statement made available to pressmen through its publicity secretary, Adejare Bashir, he expressed disappointment with the lawmakers’  failure to address the needs and concerns of their constituents. Bashir noted that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria suppprted their quest in Section 69,110 and others by empowering citizens to do oversight on legislators and hold elected representatives accountable just as the lawmakers are empowered by the same constitution to do oversight on the executive and hold them accountable.”

“We are disappointed with the performance of our lawmakers,” Bashir said. “Despite their campaign promises, they have failed to deliver on their commitments to the people of Kwara South.”

The group outlined specific expectations from each of the lawmakers, emphasizing the need for improved legislation that benefits the youth and the overall development of Kwara South.

Senator Ashiru Under Fire

The group criticized Senator Ashiru for not doing enough to address the educational and healthcare needs of Kwara South even as he sits at the helms of affairs as the deputy senate president. They urged him to sponsor a bill that would establish a vocational training center in Kwara South to equip youth with skills and enhance their employability, they also remind him of the need to raise what appear to be a dead bill on the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic Offa to technical degree awarding university.

“We expect Senator Ashiru to take the lead in promoting education and healthcare in Kwara South,” Bashir said. “His failure to do so is a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the people, he should not forget that there were senators before him, there will be senators after him, his legacies will be traced to him at the end, Bashir urge Senator Ashiru to glued to legislatives remits.

Rep. Ajuloopin Accused of Neglecting Infrastructure

The group accused Rep. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi of neglecting the infrastructure needs of the good people of Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/ Oke-Ero federal constituency. They urged him to sponsor a bill that would allocate funds for the rehabilitation of major roads in the district and facilitate projects.

“Rep. Olawuyi has failed to address the infrastructure challenges facing his immediate constituency as a third termer,” Bashir said. “We expect him to be at the top of ideas, leveraging on his long stay in the green chambers to better the lives of his constituents.”

Rep. Tijani Ismail Urged to Prioritize Social Welfare

The group called on Rep. Tijani Ismail to prioritize legislative activities that benefit the vulnerable and marginalized groups in his constituency. They urged him to sponsor a bill that would establish a social welfare program for the elderly and disabled in his region. It’s alarming that a man who returned to the chamber through the court has decided to neglect his people. He had decided to leave them incommunicable.

“We expect Rep. Tijani Ismail to use his position to promote the welfare of the most vulnerable members of our society,” Bashir said. “His failure to do so would be a disappointment to the people he represents.”

The Kwara South Youth Congress warned that if the lawmakers fail to improve their performance, they would mobilize their members to vote them out in the next election if at all they made it to the ballot under any political party.

“We are giving them an ultimatum to shape up and deliver on their campaign promises,” bashir said. “If they fail to do so, we will take action to ensure that they are held accountable for their failure.”

The group’s criticism of the lawmakers has sparked a heated debate in Kwara South, with many residents expressing frustration with the poor performance of their elected representatives.
