Klopp turned down Man United, Chelsea approaches – Agent

Jurgen Klopp’s agent has claimed that both Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches to the former Liverpool manager after his departure from Anfield, according to RTE.

Marc Kosicke told Transfermarkt that the 58-year-old German was also a candidate to manage England after stepping down at the end of the 2023–24 season.

However, both Manchester United and Chelsea have strongly denied making any approach to Klopp, either directly or through an intermediary, the Press Association understands.

Klopp, who previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, spent nine years at Liverpool before taking up his current role as head of global football with Red Bull.

Kosicke said, “Maybe at some point he’ll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he’s very, very happy in his role.

“Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England. Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been in place.”

He added, “Even Chelsea and Manchester United made inquiries, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England.

“These inquiries keep coming. He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved. And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who managed only three clubs and were never fired.”

Kosicke also claimed that the United States approached Klopp before appointing Mauricio Pochettino as successor to Gregg Berhalter in September 2024, while the Football Association later appointed Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate’s successor in January 2025.
