Kenya Met Lists Regions Set to Receive Rainfall This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a seven-day weather forecast as we kick into the new month of February.

 In a forecast published on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the MET department highlighted the regions expected to receive rainfall, as most regions are expected to experience dry, sunny weather throughout the week.

“Most parts of the country are expected to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is likely to occur in a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley,” read part of their report.

The weatherman also stated that hot conditions are expected during the daytime, with maximum temperatures above 30°C expected in several parts of the country, including the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.

During the night, cool temperatures are expected, with a minimum temperature below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Into the Highlands

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, which includes Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok Counties, are expected to have sunny intervals in the mornings during the first half of the forecast period, and rains over a few places.

 Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are also likely to occur over a few places.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi Counties, are expected to see sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

However, there is a possibility of afternoon and nighttime showers in a few places.

 Northern Kenya

The North-western part of Kenya, which includes areas like Turkana and Samburu Counties, will have sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night, while the North-eastern part of Kenya, including areas like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, will experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

Forecast for Southeastern Region

The South-eastern lowlands, which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta Counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County, are expected to have sunny intervals during the day, and partly cloudy conditions at night.

Coast Region

This area includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, as well as the coastal areas of Tana River County.

Sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night for the region.
