Kano closes all entertainment centers for Ramadan

The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centers across the state ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

The directive was announced on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abdullahi Sulaiman.

The order affects entertainment centres popularly known as gala houses, as well as Disc Jockey operators under the board’s regulatory jurisdiction.

According to the statement, the closure takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will last until the end of Ramadan.

“The action is intended to create a peaceful environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast in accordance with religious injunctions,” Sulaiman said.

The board warned that enforcement teams would monitor compliance and that violators would face sanctions.

It clarified that the directive does not apply to event centres used for weddings, conferences, or political gatherings.

A director of the board, Usman Dankwano, said only venues strictly classified as entertainment outlets under the board’s jurisdiction are affected.
