JUST IN: INEC Recognizes Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as PDP National Chairman, Rejects Letter from Suspended Members

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognized Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as the legitimate National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), solidifying the authority of the party’s newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC).

In a decisive move, INEC dismissed a letter submitted by suspended party members Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who had falsely presented themselves as Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary. The duo had written to the commission seeking the postponement of the PDP governorship primaries in Ekiti State.

According to INEC, their correspondence held no validity as both men had already been suspended on November 1 for alleged misconduct. Their suspension was subsequently upheld and reinforced during the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan.

At the well-attended convention, party delegates overwhelmingly confirmed the election of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman. The convention also ratified the expulsion of Anyanwu, Abdulrahman, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose over allegations of running parallel party structures, abusing judicial processes, and engaging in actions considered detrimental to party unity.

The commission’s recognition of Turaki is expected to usher in renewed stability within the PDP as the party prepares for upcoming electoral activities, including the Ekiti governorship primaries and the 2027 general elections.
