The candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been declared winners of all the 16 local government areas in the just-concluded local government elections in Taraba State..

Philip Duwe, the chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), disclosed this on Sunday while declaring the results of Saturday’s election at the commission’s headquarters in Jalingo.

Mr Duwe said the results of the 165 contested councilorship seats in the 16 local government areas were declared at the various LGAs.

“This election was keenly contested by six political parties, and the PDP has won overwhelmingly from the results here declared.

“The results announced at the local government collation centres are legally valid, and what we are doing is just to validate what has been announced.

“We would study the reports from various quarters and leverage them for better performance subsequently,” he stated.

Mr Duwe added, “Those who have won, this may be your good day, but be humble and grateful for your victory. If you have lost, it could be a bad day, but the bad days will expire. Be prayerful and focused.”

Meanwhile, the Taraba State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi has claimed that ballot papers were thumbprinted in the homes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts in several locations across the state.

He lamented that so many members of the opposition were disenfranchised due to this action.

El-Sudi who made the allegations on Saturday in Jalingo said that reports from across the local governments especially where the APC was fully involved showed that there was no election as what happened was a mere charade.

The APC chieftain argued that the election has exposed the nefarious tendencies of the state governor and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that they made deliberate efforts to undermine democracy.

He said, “It has become imperative for me to address you at this time. Ordinarily, local government election is supposed to be going on across the state and all of us should be busy with that. Unfortunately, electoral materials were taken to the homes of political stalwarts for thumb printing.

“The situation in locations such as Zing, Gashaka and other places is the same. Even in Jalingo here, there was no election at all in most of the polling units. This is very unfortunate.

“I am, therefore, calling for complete cancellation of the election. This is such a sham and disgrace, and so we, as a party, cannot be associated with it.”
