Biodun Jeyifo came to my consciousness first, like a gladiator in that (in)famous arena of African literary polemics. It was at the height of the broadside interventions that trailed the Wole Soyinka-Ali Mazrui (Skip Gates) debates of 1999/2000s, and I found his intervention perhaps the most fascinating.
