JK Rowling hits back at ‘baseless and disgusting’ Holocaust denier claims: ‘Always been a supporter’

JK Rowling has accused transgender rights activists of sinking to “a new low” and noted that they made “baseless and disgusting claims” that she was a Holocaust denier.

She recently issued a statement on Tuesday which pointed out that she has always been in support of the Jewish community and has spoken out against anti-Semitism.

Her statement came after left-wing editor for Novara Media, Rivkah Brown, apologised to Rowling for accusing her of the Holocaust denial, and admitted it was “false and offensive”.

However, social media users went on to claim that Rowling was a denier and speculated that Brown only retracted her statement due to the threat of legal action.

The false allegations came after Rowling stated on X – formerly known as Twitter – that transgender people were a priority target of the Nazis during the Holocaust.

She said: “While I’m used to the gross distraction techniques used by the more extreme faction of trans activism, the claim that I am a Holocaust denier is baseless and disgusting.

“I have always been a staunch supporter of the Jewish community and have spoken out consistently and repeatedly against anti-Semitism.

“I’m familiar with such activists’ assertions that transgender people have been uniquely persecuted and oppressed throughout history.

“But claims that trans people were ‘the first targets’ of the Nazis – a claim I refuted on X, and which led to these accusations – and that I ‘uphold [Nazi] ideology around gender’ is a new low.”

Last month, Rowling also questioned a claim made by one social media user who said: “The Nazis burnt books on trans healthcare and research, why are you so desperate to uphold their ideology around gender?”

She replied: “I just… how. How did you type this out and press send without thinking ‘I should maybe check my source for this because it might’ve just been a fever dream’.”

Rowling has also been at the forefront of a trans row and recently revealed that she wouldn’t accept an apology from Harry Potter stars such as Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson if they apologised for their comments.

The ongoing feud between Rowling and her Harry Potter colleagues began back in 2020 after she made a comment towards a transgender op-ed piece.

Radcliff responded: “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional healthcare associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

Watson tweeted shortly after and penned: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are. I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.”

Rowling hit out at the stars after Hilary Cass released a report into gender treatment in the UK, with the author writing on X: “Thousands are complicit, not just medics, but the celebrity mouthpieces, unquestioning media and cynical corporations,” she added.

Replying to one of seven tweets, one X user said: “Just waiting for Daniel [Radcliffe] and Emma [Watson] to give you a very public apology. Safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them.”

Rowling quickly responded: “Not safe, I'm afraid. Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single-sex spaces.”

Another user said: “I reckon a few people you used to know, owe them and you a huge apology and a public one at that.”
