The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will begin a “Bring Your Own Device” option for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from 2027. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions in Abuja.

He said candidates would be allowed to use their personal devices for the examination, with a flash drive inserted to prevent malpractice. He explained that the option would be cheaper, easier to manage, and would address complaints from candidates whose computers malfunctioned during exams.

KEY POINTS (SO WHAT)

Candidates will no longer be solely dependent on JAMB’s often faulty computers for their exams.
The BYOD option could reduce anxiety for candidates familiar with their own devices.
Security measures, including flash drives, will be deployed to prevent examination malpractice.
The 2027 start date gives JAMB and candidates two years to prepare for the transition.
