As the anticipation for his album, I Told Them, builds, popular Nigerian singer Burna Boy, in a recent interview, shared his thoughts on what Afrobeats means to him as well as how the artists under the genre see and work on their projects.

The afrobeats singer described the genre as one with no substance, as it is basically about nothing but having a good time. He added that the African artists that happen to release music focused on the Afrobeats sound do not have real-life experience they can talk about on songs, and as such, he as an artist, is a firm believer in creating music with substance.
