Ademola Lookman has described his decision to represent Nigeria as a blessing, according to Daily Post.

Born in Wandsworth, Greater London, to Nigerian parents, Lookman initially represented England at the youth level, helping the U-20 team win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017. However, he switched allegiance to Nigeria in February 2022 and made his debut for the Super Eagles in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana the following month.

Lookman’s first major tournament appearance for Nigeria came at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he made a significant impact by scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven appearances. He was also named to the Team of the Tournament.

Reflecting on his decision, the 27-year-old winger expressed his pride in playing for Nigeria, calling it a major turning point in his career.

“It was massive for me because that was really a big turning point in my career,” Lookman told Sporty TV. “Ever since I’ve put on the Super Eagles jersey, it has been fruitful. We have achieved a lot together as a team and we’re still growing. The togetherness within the squad is very special.”

He added, “We showed that in the last AFCON, reaching the final, though we came up a bit short.”
