Israel Disobeys International Court of Justice order, bombs Gaza, Rafah

Israel bombed the Gaza Strip, including Rafah, on Saturday, despite an International Court of Justice (ICJ) order to halt its military offensive.

The ICJ, in response to a case brought by South Africa alleging genocide, instructed Israel to cease its operations in Rafah and release hostages held by Palestinian militants.

According to Vanguard, the court’s orders, though legally binding, lack direct enforcement mechanisms.

National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, along with a foreign ministry spokesperson, insisted that Israel’s operations do not aim to create conditions that could lead to the destruction of the Palestinian population.

Hamas, ruling Gaza since 2007, welcomed the ICJ ruling but criticized its limited scope.

Despite the ruling, Israeli airstrikes continued on Saturday, with reports of bombings in Rafah and Deir al-Balah.

Palestinian witnesses and AFP teams confirmed the ongoing violence.
