Inflation drops slightly to 11.5% in August 2025

Ghana’s year-on-year inflation slowed to 11.5% in August 2025, down from 12.1% in July, marking the eighth consecutive monthly decline and the lowest rate recorded in four years.

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) attributes this continued decline to a significant easing in the prices of food and other essential goods.

According to Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, the latest figures signal that the inflationary pressures which had burdened the economy for several months are finally subsiding.

He noted that the downward trend reflects a gradual return to price stability, offering a measure of relief to consumers.

On a month-on-month basis, prices actually fell by 1.3% between July and August, suggesting improving conditions for households.

Food inflation dropped to 14.8% in August from 15.1% the previous month, showing a 2.5% reduction in the pace of price increases.

Non-food inflation also declined, falling to 8.7% from 9.5% in the previous month.

Inflation for locally produced items eased to 12.2% in August, compared to 12.9% in the previous month.

Similarly, inflation for imported goods dropped to 9.5% from 10.0%, further indicating a broad-based slowdown in price increases.

Regionally, disparities remain.

The Upper West Region continued to record the highest inflation rate at 21.8%, more than double the national average, though this represents an improvement from 24.8% in July.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Bono Region registered the lowest inflation at just 6.1%.

These figures highlight a positive trajectory for the economy, even as regional inequalities and the need for sustained policy efforts remain critical moving forward.
