In loving tribute of Pastor Nkechi Chinyere Ene

By Rev’d Dr. Olusegun Ogungboye

With profound sorrow and deep gratitude, I honour the life, ministry, and legacy of Pastor Nkechi Chinyere Ene —presiding pastor of The Carpenter’s Church, a beloved spiritual mother, teacher, mentor and friend of many. On Wednesday, 29 October 2025, she transitioned to glory after a faithful life of service.

I first heard of Pastor Nkechi, as she is fondly called, through Pa Evang. Professor Duro Adegboye sometime in 2010 during one of the spiritual retreats held at The Gospel City, Offa. Since then, I followed her wholeheartedly.

A LIFE MARKED BY EXCELLENCE & SERVICE

Pastor Nkechi’s story is one of vision, faith, and unwavering devotion. Born in Accra, Ghana and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, she graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

From a successful professional path, she surrendered to full-time ministry—serving earlier as associate pastor to Pastor Charles Omofomah until his passing in 2013, subsequently she became the Presiding Pastor of The Carpenter’s Church.

Her leadership reached beyond the local church: she hosted the long-running television ministry Freshdew, served as Director of Schools at Ekklesia School of Local Church, authored several books (such as No Fear Here and Dancing With Your Spirit), and invested in raising up leaders.

A SHEPHERD WITH COMPASSION AND CLARITY

Colleagues and congregants alike testify to her gift of teaching—clear, charismatic, rooted in Scripture, and delivered with authenticity. The church eulogy described her as one who “lived and believed the Word of God till the very end”.

She was loved as “Mother-in-Israel,” a nurturing presence who carried hearts on her heart. Her passion for seeing people move from one level of glory to another was not just rhetoric—it was lived out in discipleship, mentorship, and example.

A LEGACY OF FAITH & IMPACT

Though her departure leaves a deep void, her life leaves an enduring legacy:

  1. A church empowered to preach the undiluted Word, with lives transformed under her ministry.
  2. A media outreach (Freshdew) that brought hope and spiritual insight into countless homes for decades.
  3. A generation of leaders and believers who were shaped by her example and teaching.
  4. A testimony to what it means to integrate excellence of mind (engineering background) with excellence of spirit (ministry calling)—showing that God uses all parts of our story.

WORDS OF COMFORT

To her Spiritual Father – Pa Evang. Professor Durojaiye Adegboye, her daughters Zoe, Chloe, Tracy, and Osi, her mother – Ma Mercy Chijioke, and the wider family, my deepest condolences.

The church has asked that we “embrace, comfort and encourage one another” in this season. In the midst of grief, we should hold to the truth that while we mourn, we also celebrate a life well-lived. In the Church Press Release, the church affirmed: “We honour and celebrate one of the great generals of God in our generation. Though now absent from us, her impact and legacy endure in our hearts and in our lives.”

FINAL REFLECTION

Pastor Nkechi Ene’s story reminds us that a life surrendered to God, lived in humility and service, echoes far beyond the moment. Her résumé spoke of engineering excellence—but her legacy speaks of spiritual excellence. Her sermons reached minds—but her love reached hearts.

As we bid farewell, we do so in faith: she has heard the Master’s words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May this truth bring comfort. May her family, the church, and all impacted carry forward her torch of faith, hope, love, and excellence.

Let us continue to honour her by living out the principles she taught: faith without fear, spirit-led living, service poured out, and excellence in every realm of life.

Rest in the Lord, dear Pastor Nkech—you ministered till the end, you fought the good fight, you finished the race. The church is richer for your labour.
