A Nigerian lady has expressed frustration over what she described as the growing normalisation of hookup culture on social media, saying it has eroded respect for women in society.

‘Everywhere has turned to hookup ground’

In a video shared online, the lady voiced regret about being female, accusing some women of fuelling a culture that encourages men to approach women disrespectfully.

She cited platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat as spaces where women increasingly get labelled or treated as hookup workers.

According to her, the trend has emboldened men to slide into women’s direct messages with indecent proposals without fear or shame.

“I no go lie for you, the way all these girls take corrupt everywhere ehhn it’s becoming something else. Even man self no go get respect for woman again,” she said.

She added that the situation was “annoying and shameful,” stressing that many men now openly ask women if they are “available for hookup,” with little or no regard.

Concerns over morality and social values

The lady further lamented that the behaviour of some women has contributed to the loss of moral values.

She claimed that the repeated association of women with hookup culture has reduced respect for womanhood in general, adding that it has become harder for genuine interactions to take place online without suspicion.

Her remarks come amid wider debates on social media about declining morals and the influence of online content on young people.
