A major political development unfolded in Ahiazu Mbaise on Friday, April 10, 2026, as Chief Benjamin Iyke Anyanwu, popularly known as Ikukundu, formally declared his intention to contest for the Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency seat in the Imo State House of Assembly, presenting a vision anchored on inclusive, people-driven, and grassroots-focused representation.

Speaking before party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, and members of the public, Ikukundu said his aspiration is driven by a deep commitment to responsive leadership, practical development, and sustained engagement with the people.

“I will make sure our youths are well engaged in meaningful ventures; I will listen, engage, and deliver what truly matters to the people,” he stated.

He emphasized that the time has come for legislative representation that is accessible, accountable, and firmly connected to the everyday realities of the people. According to him, his vision is rooted in consultation, transparency, and a clear understanding of the needs and aspirations of communities across Ahiazu Mbaise.

Ikukundu further pledged to promote youth opportunity and digital empowerment, support women empowerment, encourage grassroots inclusion, and pursue practical development that directly impacts the lives of the people. He identified roads, schools, water supply, enterprise support, and community progress as priority areas requiring focused legislative attention.

The aspirant also assured that his leadership would remain accessible to the people even after the election, stressing that representation must go beyond campaign promises and become a continuous relationship of listening, presence, and service.

Drawing from his background in telecommunications and digital infrastructure, he said he would bring knowledge, innovation, and problem-solving capacity to lawmaking and constituency development. He added that the unity and progress of Ahiazu must rise above ward interests, insisting that the constituency must move forward as one people with a shared purpose.

Ikukundu expressed gratitude to Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for the reconstruction of the Aba Branch–Eke Ahiara–Ngor Okpala road, describing the project as a major intervention and a clear demonstration of responsive governance.

The declaration was witnessed by party leaders and key stakeholders, including the traditional ruler of his community, His Royal Highness Eze L.C. Ogbata, Igwe Onugotu II of Mpam Ancient Kingdom, who recommended him to party leaders as a worthy son and eminently qualified candidate from Mpam.

Also present were party stakeholders from across Ahiazu, including government functionaries, local government executives, ward chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors, members of his political structure, the GDIM group, and other party faithful. Notable leaders in attendance included Hon. Comrade Anselem Anyanwu, High Chief Larry Chikwe, Professor Ojilere, Hon. Chief Dr. Ngozi Aririguzo, Mrs. Maureen Osuagwu, High Chief Mike Anyanwu, Chief Austin Chilakpo, and John Ezenwa, among others.

Observers described the declaration as a strong statement of intent and a significant step toward a representation model that places the voice of the people at the center of legislative action.

With a clear message of inclusion, accountability, accessibility, and delivery, the April 10 declaration marks not just the beginning of a campaign, but the presentation of a governance philosophy built on service, unity, and people-first leadership.
