Ikeja Electricity Company Extends Deadline For Nigerians To Link Meters With NIN

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IE) has extended the deadline for customers to link their National Identity Numbers (NIN) to their meters until November 15. SaharaReporters in October reported that the power distribution company had announced that only customers who had linked their NIN to their meters by November 1, 2023, will receive the required two sets of 20-digit energy tokens to access power in their homes. However, SaharaReporters on Sunday reported that some Nigerians on X, previously known as Twitter, were complaining about their inability to update their prepaid meters before the November deadline as stipulated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Following a NERC countdown alert on Sunday to remind users of the scheduled TID Rollover Upgrade, Nigerians lamented how cumbersome the process had been due to technical hitches. However, on Wednesday, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company on X platform announced the extension of the NIN linkage
