Conventional wisdom says that the bigger the vehicle you're in, the safer you'll be. So if you're in a Ford F-150, you'll expect to be better off in a crash than if you were in a Ford Escape. It makes some intuitive sense, since the heavier vehicle won't be shoved around like a lighter vehicle in a crash, and there's probably more vehicle surrounding the occupants. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety decided to look into it, and while there's a little bit of truth there, the advantage is quite minimal. That's just for the occupants of the heavy vehicle, too. For everyone else, extra weight becomes a danger.
