If I Choose This Marriage, My Uncle Will Never Help Me Again (Part 2)

If you haven’t read the first part of this story, here’s the link. Kindly read it before starting this one.

After sharing my story, a lot of people got angry. Some even said I should rather connect them to my uncle so he could help them instead of wasting his resources on me. Others advised that I should leave my man. It’s easier said than done. I accepted every comment with calm because I knew none of them had walked in my shoes.

When I was broke and had nothing to eat, this same man was there for me. I appreciate everything he has done for me. Despite all the pain and disappointment, I’ve always had a soft spot for his kindness.

After giving it a lot of thought, I called my uncle and assured him that I was ready to travel. He began the process immediately. Later, I called Koo so we could have an honest conversation about it. He accepted my decision and said that whatever I wanted to do, he would always be there to support me.

Our communication became less frequent after that, but he never stopped sending me money every month.

Four months passed, and I hadn’t heard from my uncle. Then one day, Koo called to tell me he had applied for a Canadian visa. He said he wanted to use me as his wife for the process, so I should come and sign the court certificate. I told him to give me a week to think about it.

I prayed about it but didn’t tell anyone. A week later, I agreed and signed the paperwork. Three months after that, his visa was approved.

When I finally informed my mum, she called my uncle as well. My uncle was very angry at first, but after speaking with my man, he calmed down.

To cut a long story short, when we arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport, we got stranded. The person who was supposed to pick us up never showed up. The company address on the documents turned out to be fake. We used the little money we had to book a hotel for the night.

The next morning, we called my uncle and explained everything to him. He quickly reached out to a friend who helped us return to Ghana after spending two frustrating weeks there. Upon our return, the agent who had arranged the whole connection for Koo was nowhere to be found.

Through it all, my uncle stood by us. The good news is that he didn’t cancel my own travel process. In fact, they continued working on it even while I was away.

We’re now back in Ghana. I am on good terms with my family and my relationship is still thriving and. I’m praying that things work out for the best, for both of us. Hopefully, I’ll hear good news from my uncle very soon. Thank you everyone for your counsel.
