I have a big 11-2 tip at Newmarket… where friends turn to the deadliest of enemies

REDEMPTION time? No one knows the horses at the top of the Cambridgeshire market better than jockey Kieran Shoemark. He’s a nice guy alright but Kieran Shoemark wouldn’t mind getting the better of some old friends in Saturday’s Cambridgeshire at NewmarketGetty And he just wouldn’t be human if he didn’t fancy turning over some old friends in Saturday afternoon’s big betting race live on ITV. REDEMPTION time?

No one knows the horses at the top of the Cambridgeshire market better than jockey Kieran Shoemark.

And he just wouldn’t be human if he didn’t fancy turning over some old friends in Saturday afternoon’s big betting race live on ITV.

Shoemark rides TREBLE TREE (3.40) for the excellent Crisford combo of old man Simon and his son Ed.

I like this stable. There’s something classy about it. It’s a decent operation.

The market suggests two of Treble Tee’s big dangers will be the John & Thady Gosden pair Fifth Column and Westridge.

Once both of those horses were Shoemark’s pals.

But here they are the deadliest of enemies.

Shoemark gave Westridge one of the best rides of 2024 when he steered the quirky type to his first victory at Windsor in June of that year.

It was a belter of a performance in the saddle to deny stable companion and 2-5 favourite Roi De France by a short head.

Shoemark was also on top Fifth Column when he broke his maiden at Kempton in April.

Again it was a decent effort in the saddle to pip Mister Rizz.

That was on April 7, when Shoemark was the Gosden’s No.1 man.

By the first week of May the Clarehaven team had thrown him out following the defeat — over this course and just under the distance — of Field Of Gold in the 2,000 Guineas.

Clearly the rides on Westridge and Fifth Column meant nothing!

So Shoemark comes full circle and gets the chance to ride the Rowley Mile like a demon, just as he did on Field Of Gold in the Craven Stakes, where he was beautifully patient.

Under Shoemark, Treble Tee ran really well in defeat at Goodwood and he hacked up at Doncaster last time, which leaves him 4lb ‘well-in’.

The stable went close to taking this prize in 2018 with Mordin, and this is another huge opportunity.

Treble Tee will be dropped out but hopefully come with a surging late thrust.

I think he has a massive chance of winning, but I also want to give a shout out to Mister Winston and Nicola Currie.

The latter is handed a fine opportunity here by Andrew Balding and Mister Winston was favorite for the Goodwood event featuring Treble Tee.

That day Mister Winston went forward as he has been lately, but he used up too much petrol too soon.

If Currie just holds on to him he might see it out better and he’s not a bad horse.

The other contender I want to mention is Greek Order, who was second in this as the 5-2F in 2023.

After that season he went to Bill Mott in America and was later gelded.

He came back to the UK this term for Michael Bell and ran a fine fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup off a mark of 95, the rating he was this time two years ago.

He’s only up to 96 here and could easily make his mark once again.

Away from the Cambridgeshire the juveniles take centre stage.

In the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes the colts do battle with Wise Approach the one to beat.

COPPULL (3.00) was not at his best in France last time when he didn’t see out the 6f, but he had looked good over the trip at Goodwood before that flop and was a fine third to Gstaad in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and both of those efforts give him an each-way chance.

Maybe he was in front too far out at Deauville.

The fillies’ equivalent of the Middle Park is the Cheveley Park Stakes.

All eyes here on Ed Walker’s Royal Fixation, who looked good in the Lowther at York.

FITZELLA (2.25) might be the each-way value for Hugo Palmer and Oisin Murphy.

The exciting filly just got stretched when going 7f in France last time, chasing home a Fabre inmate in the Prix du Calvados.

Prior to that she had hacked up in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes and was fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot.

She has a cracking each-way chance.

Finally with the youngsters, the exciting Bow Echo is in the mix for the Group 2 Tattersalls Online Royal Lodge Stakes.

The one who really interests me as an each-way selection is the Charlie Johnston inmate ANCIENT EGYPT.

David Egan had a twinkle in his eye when I spoke to him at Lingfield this week about the unbeaten son of Frankel who cost 1,100,000gns has won well at both Goodwood and Beverley. Looks a strong stayer.

What a day ahead…
