I Caught Him Cheating With Ten Different Women

I met Nicholas when I was in SHS. By then I was living with my aunt who maltreated me to the point where I developed high blood pressure. In those difficult times, Nick was my friend and my comfort. I knew his family, and he knew mine. We were so close that I didn’t have any second thoughts when we started dating.

After completing SHS, I enrolled in a Travel and Tour school but I couldn’t complete it. I got pregnant. I had to get a job and support Nick with the pregnancy expenses. When it was time for delivery, he was nowhere to be found. His abandonment left me depressed. Because of my mental state, I stayed at the hospital with my baby for two weeks. I was discharged after several counselling sessions.

It was when our baby was eight months old that he came back overflowing with apologies. I was still hurt but I chose to let go of the past and give him another chance.

Along the line, I moved to another city where I lived for three years. At some point, I had accommodation problems, so he told me to move in with him. He said we would get married. Our daughter was five years old then. I wanted her to stay close to her father. It was one of the factors I considered when I accepted his proposal and moved in with him.

One day, our landlady called me aside and asked if I really knew my boyfriend well. I told her I’d known him since 2010. She looked at me and said, “You can’t be with him — he’s a chronic womaniser.” In my mind, I thought, “This woman paa, my man is too innocent to cheat.” So I brushed it off.

Soon after, I found out I was pregnant with our second child. We decided to wait until after I gave birth so we could do the naming ceremony and the traditional marriage ceremony together. Everything was going well until one of his lovers showed up at the house unannounced.

She was shocked when she saw my belly and my daughter. According to her, my boyfriend had told her that my child was his niece. She wanted to cause a scene, but I pleaded with her to calm down. I even left the room so they could talk.

Hours later, she came out and told me, “You deserve someone better. The way you received me shows you’re a good person. You need a man who will love and cherish you.”

That day, I cried bitterly. My boyfriend didn’t even apologise. He acted like nothing had happened. So I decided to go through his phone. That was when I discovered he was sleeping with more than ten women. That discovery was a two-edged sword. It broke me but it also liberated me.

I told him, “I won’t marry you when I give birth. I am done.”

After giving birth, I went to visit my aunt when my baby was four months old. While I was away, he brought another woman into the house and hid both my belongings and the children’s things. What broke me the most was where he kept my newborn baby’s items in a dirty place full of waste.

I had nowhere to go with two kids, so I stayed with him for three more months. During that time, he wouldn’t talk to me, eat my food, or even show remorse.

One day, I stood in front of my mirror and didn’t recognise the person I had become. I looked miserable. That was when I told myself, I have to move out for the sake of my kids.

I started taking care of myself again. I dressed well, ate well, and prayed.

When he noticed the change, he tried to come close again — after three months! But I had already made up my mind. I packed my things and my children’s belongings and went to the village.

We stayed there for a few months. I thought about going to Accra to look for a job but I didn’t know anyone. Then one day I overheard someone saying there was a woman in Accra looking for a housemaid.

Nicholas thought I would come back to him since I had no money or place to stay, but God had other plans. Now, I’m in Accra working as a housemaid. I’m not ashamed of it. I finally have peace of mind, and I’m happy. I may have wasted my youthful years with a man who didn’t deserve me, but through it all, I say — it is well.
