  • Roughly 70 luxury vehicles were vandalized, causing $155K in damage total.
  • Attacks took place at two Oregon dealerships over the span of three days.
  • Authorities seized firearms and linked suspect to additional criminal charges.

Crime doesn’t pay, but some folks still get away with it. Those who commit similar crimes over and over reduce their chances of freedom, though, and that’s what one Montana man found out the hard way. Police say he vandalized some 70 (!) luxury vehicles at different dealerships and damaged other cars along the way. Now, he’s behind bars.

According to Salem Police in Oregon, the first incident happened on September 11. Surveillance cameras caught a person authorities believed to be the suspect damaging roughly 35 cars at Mercedes & Acura of Salem on Commercial Street SE. Investigators estimate the person caused roughly $58,000 worth of damage that night alone.

Luxury Lot Rampage

Video from the scene obtained by KOIN shows a person driving into the lot in a Range Rover Evoque. The driver gets out and appears to slash tires and perhaps key a few cars along the way. Evidently, some were customer cars there for service or awaiting pickup.

Things only ramped up from there, though, because three days later, a similar scene played out at BMW of Salem on Van Ness Ave NE. This time, the perp damaged 35 other vehicles but caused some $100,000 worth of damage. On top of that, officers believe they’ve identified at least 20 individual victims of the same suspect outside of dealerships.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Brian Werner of Kalispell, Montana. He was taken into custody on Monday, September 16, on charges of DUI and reckless driving. Police soon learned that Werner already had an outstanding warrant back home tied to incidents involving firearms and criminal mischief. In the end, they seized Werner’s vehicle and numerous firearms, says NBC Montana.

More Victims Possible?

Despite all of this, police still wonder if there are additional victims out there between Montana and Oregon. Anyone who suspects that Werner damaged their vehicle can report it here or contact the Salem Police Department and reference case number SMP25079703.
