Gov Abiodun gifts Super Falcons ₦50m ahead of Benin clash

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has rewarded the Super Falcons with a ₦50 million cash gift ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic.

The Governor made the announcement when the players and officials visited him at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday.

“We were delighted to receive the Super Falcons of Nigeria in our office ahead of their second-leg WAFCON 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic. In recognition of their inspiring performances and to further motivate them for the task ahead, we announced a support package of ₦50 million to the team,” Abiodun said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

He also highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to transform the MKO Abiola International Stadium into a world-class sports and tourism hub, featuring a hotel, cinema, shopping complex, and other modern facilities.

“Their return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium is a validation that we are doing something right in Ogun State,” he added.

Abiodun commended the Falcons for their historic tenth WAFCON title in Morocco, praising their leadership, teamwork, and discipline as an inspiration to millions of young women.

The Super Falcons will take on Benin Republic in the return leg of their WAFCON qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, on Tuesday (today), after winning the first leg 2-0 in Lome.
