British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has reaffirmed his appreciation of Asia and his love for Philippine cuisine in his latest Netflix documentary, calling the culture “Incredible”.

The ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ Chef’s visit to Manila in January last year was shown in episode 4 of ‘Being Gordon Ramsay’.

He took the trip to the Philippines for his first Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill in Newport World Resorts, which opened in August 2024.

“The importance of attending these openings for me is paying respect to the country. They give me so much. They support me endlessly,” he remarked regarding his visit.

The multi-Michelin-star chef reaffirmed his affection for Asia, especially the Philippines and its cuisine. “The Philippines has been a huge market for us, and Filipino cuisine in general is… Oof! It’s bubbling like no tomorrow,” he complimented.

On his way to his restaurant’s launch, Ramsay also made a snide remark about local transportation, noting that there were many motorcycles and e-bikes on the road.

“I don’t know how long you’ll survive riding a bike here. But they are everywhere. They’re like little ants, aren’t they?”

Ramsay explained that it strikes a chord with him so much what Filipino chefs bring to the kitchen. “The Filipino flair, just with the chefs alone, what they do and what they stand for, and the humbleness, I can relate to because it relates to my upbringing,” he said. “And just the food scene, the culture is incredible.”

At the restaurant’s debut, Ramsay can be seen chatting with several staff members and taking selfies with them. Filipino cooking influencer Abi Marquez also featured on the show. The segment gave a behind-the-scenes look at her content partnership with Ramsay.

The episode also gave a glimpse of Ramsay’s tour of the Farmers Market in Araneta City, Cubao, where he was seen inquisitively assessing the various seafood selections and, at some point, sat down with his executive chef to eat.

Netflix’s ‘Being Gordon Ramsey’ debuted February 18. It tells of the celebrity chef’s family life and the opening of four restaurants and a culinary academy at 22 Bishopsgate, a skyscraper in London, England.
