As someone who literally reads and writes about books for a living, I’ll be the first to admit that the nonstop recommendations can get overwhelming. From your favorite follows on social media to your aunt at the family get-together, everyone has a five-star read that you just have to read. With how chaotic all of our lives are, it’s safe to say we’re not able to make it to every title. But thankfully, the gold standard for book recommendations, Goodreads, is giving us a midyear pulse check to refresh our TBR shelves. From romance and romantasy to thrillers and horror, they’ve given us the best books of 2026 so far, and now it’s time for perhaps one of the most popular genres: fantasy.
