Ghana’s Hidden Stories Come Alive as AMAMMERƐ Returns for Second Edition

Following a successful debut, AMAMMERƐ, the immersive storytelling experience created by Oceans & Accents, is set to return in the final quarter of 2026, promising another intimate cultural gathering designed to celebrate Ghana’s rich oral traditions through live, immersive storytelling.

With only 50 seats available, organisers say tickets are already attracting strong interest ahead of the event, which aims to offer guests a deeply personal encounter with Ghana’s history, heritage and ancestral narratives.

Unlike conventional theatrical productions, AMAMMERƐ places audiences at the centre of the experience. There is no stage, no elevated performers and no physical separation between storyteller and audience. Instead, participants gather in a circle around a symbolic flame as history is shared in the oral tradition that has defined African storytelling for generations.

The name AMAMMERƐ, pronounced Ah-mam-meh-reh, translates loosely as “The Flame of Ancestral Memory.” It is the flagship cultural initiative of Oceans & Accents, a Ghanaian-founded belonging company dedicated to connecting international visitors, members of the African diaspora and local communities through authentic cultural experiences.

Each edition focuses on a single historical narrative, bringing to life the story of a particular people or figure through theatrical storytelling rooted in ancestral traditions. According to the organisers, the initiative was developed to preserve and revive Ghana’s oral storytelling heritage by transforming it into a living cultural experience rather than a museum exhibit or classroom lesson.

“Our culture holds powerful, timeless stories that have been hidden by the cloak of time,” said Yaw Frimpong, CEO of Oceans & Accents. “AMAMMERƐ is the platform that rekindles them for tourists to discover our rich culture, and for locals to rediscover their roots.”

The maiden edition centred on the story of Nii Ayi Kushi, the leader credited with guiding the scattered Ga clans towards unity and laying the foundations for what would eventually become Accra. Guests experienced the story beneath the open sky, gathered around the symbolic flame in an atmosphere designed to mirror the communal storytelling traditions of generations past.

Organisers say the response to the inaugural event exceeded expectations, with attendees describing the experience as transformative and many others expressing regret at missing the limited-capacity gathering.

Building on that momentum, the second edition will once again be held in Accra during the final quarter of 2026. While the exact date and venue will only be disclosed to ticket holders, the organisers say the intentionally limited capacity is central to preserving the intimacy and authenticity of the experience.

Beyond entertainment, Oceans & Accents envisions AMAMMERƐ becoming a signature attraction within Ghana’s cultural tourism landscape—one that encourages visitors from around the world to engage more deeply with the country’s heritage while offering Ghanaians an opportunity to reconnect with their own history.

The company also hopes to expand the storytelling series beyond Ghana in the future, introducing African oral traditions to audiences in other parts of the world while keeping Accra as the birthplace of the initiative.
