Ghana International School Celebrates 70 Years of Excellence With Grand Platinum Jubilee Ceremony

Ghana International School (GIS), one of the country’s most prestigious academic institutions, marked its 70th anniversary with a vibrant and memorable celebration held on its school grounds.

 

The event brought together government officials, distinguished alumni, clergy, and members of the wider community to honor the school’s legacy of educational leadership, international excellence, and cultural inclusivity.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Honour the Past, Celebrate the Present, Embrace the Future,” reflected the journey of GIS from its founding in 1955—when it opened as the Gold Coast International School—into a globally recognized institution known for academic excellence and multicultural diversity.

Present at the celebration were several high-profile personalities, including Ghana’s Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who commended the school for its unwavering commitment to quality education and innovation. He praised GIS for setting the standard for private international education in Ghana.

Also in attendance were Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings,and Apostle General Sam Korankye Ankrah amongst many others.

Speaking at the 70th Anniversary , CEO of GIS Mary Ashun, passionately talked about the institution’s journey and its unwavering commitment to nurturing global citizens.

“This anniversary is not just a celebration of longevity, but a tribute to the educational ambition and international vision of our founders. GIS stands today as a beacon of world-class education on the African continent,” he said.

The 70th Anniversary featured a ceremonial cake cutting, the unveiling of GIS’s first-ever commemorative cloth, and the official launch of a beautifully designed coffee-table book chronicling the school’s seven-decade journey.

The 70th-anniversary celebration was a fitting tribute to a legacy that has shaped generations and is poised to inspire many more.
