Gary Neville sends sad message to Manchester united ahead of Chelsea clash

Former Premier League defender Gary Neville has admitted he fears for Manchester United ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

The Blues take on Erik ten Hag’s side in a highly-anticipated clash in the Premier League this week. Mauricio Pochettino’s men will fancy their chances after returning to winning ways on Sunday against Brighton.

United’s problems this season continued to pile up over the weekend with Newcastle United condemning the Red Devils to their sixth league defeat of the season. The Magpies ran out 1-0 winners but could easily have been more.

Chelsea are next up for United before big games against Bayern Munich, Liverpool, West Ham and Aston Villa follow before the end of the year. With their Champions League future and top four chances hanging in the balance, the pressure is building on ten Hag.

And speaking on Sunday, Neville has admitted his fears of what could happen when Chelsea travel to Old Trafford this week. “They got Anfield coming and Chelsea coming up on Wednesday night, which will be tough enough,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“We’ve been here before. It feels like a groundhog day where the players look disinterested at times, the body language is poor, the performances are average, the manager starts to come under criticism, the recruitment department starts to get battered, the owners still haven’t done their business.

If you knock them off slightly, like in Istanbul, they don’t react well. It knocks them completely. You can play poorly and win, but Man United have been doing that for a long time.”

He continued: “I don’t want to do their games anymore, I don’t want to watch them and that is the saddest indictment that you can have of your football club when you’re watching them. I’m tired of watching them. Daft thing is, I’ll build my whole Wednesday night around watching Man United because that’s live.

“I’m already fearing what’s going to happen at Anfield in two weeks because I think it can be a mess. I’m already fearing what’s going to happen on Wednesday night against Chelsea because it could be a mess. There’s no confidence. The whole club has lost our confidence as fans.”
